Women have different needs than men. |
When you think about women who drink too much alcohol or abuse drugs a cascade of emotions rain down over your mind. People who know first hand about addiction know the pain and shame she feels. People in recovery have great empathy and compassion for women with addiction problems. But many people who do not understand addiction often make instant judgments about that woman’s character. This unfortunate reality causes many women with alcohol and drug problems to keep their problem a secret much longer than they should. They fear losing their relationships with family, friends and children. They are ashamed about their behavior. The thought of disclosing her secret addiction seems unconscionable so she avoids the subject entirely. The consequences of this behavior are - longer duration of abuse, more brain damage and greater psychological instability.
Secrets can be a woman’s downfall and sometimes that downfall may lead to isolation, illness, jail and death. Women benefit greatly from our drug rehabilitation program because we afford women the opportunity to trust again so they can openly and honestly discuss their problems and eventually begin to heal. Our women clientele are counseled on how to diffuse their shame and finally how to forgive themselves. Many addiction experts believe that toxic shame is the main reason why women relapse. Until a woman is able to forgive herself she remains stuck in a shame based state of mind.
Detox and Vitamin Therapy
Nutrient depletion and dehydration are two major side-effects of drug and alcohol abuse. As soon as a female client arrives she is placed on an individualized vitamin therapy program and hydration treatment program. We reestablish a balanced diet into her daily routine and the results are often quite astonishing. Not only does this help her through the detoxification process we also note a significant improvement in emotional stability and cognitive skills.
What are the benefits of rehabilitation?
Change in lifestyle is the key to successful drug and alcohol rehabilitation. Women must learn to leave the past behind and forgive themselves. Change is the whole recovery program wrapped up in a single word. When people do not change the direction they are going in they will wind up where they are headed and for drug addicts and alcoholics this means either jail or death. Our drug and alcohol detoxification and rehabilitation program are designed to affect positive change as quickly and effectively as possible.
What happens to women who drink or use drugs?
There are numerous physical and mental consequences to people who abuse alcohol and drugs. The damage to the body and mind are grave and guaranteed; the only question that remains is - WHEN.
Studies have shown that women who drink alcohol and abuse drugs suffer three common consequences, fighting, unwanted and unprotected sex. In addition, the physiological make-up of women compared to men run a two to one risk of developing Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD’s). Not only is sexual assault more likely for women who are under the influence so are the rates of domestic battery, miscarriage, infertility and menstrual dysfunction. The list goes on but principle is the same, women run greater risks than men and the only answer that we recommend is total abstinence from all mind altering substances.
