ALCOHOL REHAB PROGRAM

Alcohol rehabilitation is a combination of alcohol detoxification, therapeutic techniques, counseling sessions, nutritional supplementation, hydration therapy and rest. Alcohol rehab is designed to help people suffering with alcoholism to regain their health, reveal individual core issues and show them alternatives to dealing with some of life’s more difficult situations

ALCOHOL REHAB PROGRAM

When is Alcohol Rehab appropriate?

Alcohol Rehab is appropriate for anyone physically dependent to alcohol. Confusion stemming from chronic alcohol abuse disrupts the alcoholic’s perception of reality. Their ability to make rational and logical decisions is greatly diminished. Without help from family or friends many alcoholics will not receive the help they need.

Alcohol Rehab is designed to help individuals recuperate, rejuvenate and renew their lives.

Intervention is a common first step for individuals that practice self-destructive drinking and are in a state of denial. There are a few types of interventions ranging from Alcoholics Anonymous 12 Step calls to professionally hired interventionists.

2.

Alcohol Detoxification stabilizes an alcoholic’s physical health by treating nutritional deficiencies, dehydration and alcohol withdrawal symptoms. Alcohol detoxification is the necessary step preceding psychological measures. Physical damage caused by excessive drinking to the brain, liver and central nervous system is severe.

Alcohol abuse causes a wide range of health problems including:

  • Beri Beri

  • Gastro intestinal hemorrhaging
  • Incontinence
  • Neurological disruption
  • Dehydration
  • Thiamine deficiency

3.

  • Denial (primary and secondary denial)
  • Displacement
  • Deflection
  • Shame
  • Smoking
  • Eating
  • Gambling

The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism defines 5 Categories of Alcoholics:

1. Young Adult
2. Young Antisocial
3. Functional
4. Intermediate Familial
5. Chronic Severe

1.
Young Adult subtype: This subtype makes up approximately 31.5 percent of U.S. alcoholics. Young-adult alcohol drinkers have relatively low rates of co-occurring substance abuse or other psychological disorders, low rates of family alcoholism and rarely seek help for their drinking.

2.
Young Antisocial subtype: This subtype makes up approximately 21 percent of U.S. alcoholics. They tend to be in their mid-twenties, started drinking at an early age (16 years old and younger) More than half of this subtype come from families with a history of alcoholism and about half have a psychiatric diagnosis of Antisocial Personality Disorder (Sociopathy). Many have major depression, bipolar disorder, and anxiety problems. More than 75 percent smoked cigarettes and marijuana, and many also had cocaine and opiate addictions. More than one-third of these alcoholics seek help for substance abuse.

3.
Functional subtype: This subtype makes up approximately 19.5 percent of U.S. alcoholics. The functional alcoholic is usually middle-aged, well-educated, with stable employment and a family. Nearly one-third of functional alcoholics have a multigenerational family history of alcoholism, about one-quarter had major depressive illness sometime in their lives, and nearly 50 percent were smokers.

4.
Intermediate Familial subtype: 19 percent of U.S. alcoholics. Middle-aged, with about 50 percent from families with multigenerational alcoholism, almost half have had clinical depression, and 20 percent have had bipolar disorder. Most of these individuals smoked cigarettes, and nearly one in five had problems with cocaine addiction and marijuana use. Only 25 percent ever sought treatment for their problem drinking.

5.
Chronic Severe subtype: This subtype makes up approximately 9 percent of U.S. alcoholics. They are mostly of middle-aged individuals who had early onset of drinking and alcohol problems, with high rates of Antisocial Personality Disorder (Sociopathy) and criminality. Almost 80 percent come from families with multigenerational alcoholism. They have the highest rates of other psychiatric disorders including depression, bipolar disorder, and anxiety disorders as well as high rates of smoking, and marijuana, cocaine addiction, and opiate dependence. Two-thirds of these alcoholics seek help for their drinking problems, making them the predominant type of alcoholic in alcohol rehab.
